Congratulations to the Junior and Senior KVRC Teams who represented Kennet Vale Riding Club. Both teams did the club proud with the Juniors, consisting of Sohpie Andrews, Antonia Riley, Grace Brown and Kirstie Johnson finishing in 3rd place in the Junior Section and the Seniors consisting of Alison Goulstone, Cathy Kavanagh, Becky Ormand and Rhian Evans finishing 4th in the Senior Section. A very credible performance by both teams - well done to everbody!!

Badminton Dressage Riding Club Inter Team Competition on 20th July 2011 @ Badminton Park

Two teams represented Kennet Vale Riding Club at the prestigious Badminton Dressage on 20th July 2011.  The competition had 24 teams riding this year so it was split into two sections each with 12 teams.  KVRC can be very proud of their results as Kennet Vale Team 1 consisted of Jenny Beck, Sophie Andrews and Rhian Evans and they finished in 4th place in their section.  Kennet Vale Team 2 consisted of Julia Gullis, Jess Johnson and Bev Hoddinott.  They finished in 3rd place in their section.  Rhian Evans and Jess Johnson were the highest scoring riders in their respective teams so they had to go forward to the ride off later in the afternoon which was against the other 22 top scoring riders.  Rhian finished in 3rd place overall and Jess rode a very consistent test with a horses that she has only owned for a matter of weeks.  Well done to all those of you that competed.

Horse Trial Championships on 06th & 07th August 2010 @ Aston Le Walls

Kennet Vale had a very successful weekend at the Riding Club Horse Trials National Championships two day event at Aston Le Walls on 6th & 7th August.  The team of 4 was made up of Alison Goulstone, Grace Warden, Julia Gullis and Rhian Evans.  A lot of preparation had gone into getting both horses and riders fit and ready to undertake the challenge of dressage and show jumping on day one and then roads and tracks, steeplechase and cross country on day two.     Saturday's dressage got Kennet Vale off to a flying start with two tests sub 30 penalties.  The SJ went equally well with 3 out of 4 members jumping clear rounds. With that out of the way all focus moved to Sunday when the team members had nearly an hour of riding to complete Phase A - Roads and Tracks, Phase B - Steeplechase, Phase C - Roads and Tracks and then Phase D - Cross Country.  All went well in Phases A, B and C with no penalties incurred despite the steeplechase having to be ridden slightly faster than some of us realized!! Then came Phase D, the cross country course was nicely built and was a lovely galloping course.  There were a couple of questions on the course that would not normally be seen in an Intro class but all the questions were fair.  3 out of 4 of our  combinations jumped clear but some time penalties were collected, albeit for going too quickly and a run out for one combination lay claim to 20 penalties.

At the end of the competition, 3 out of 4 scores were counted with the highest penalty score being discarded.  This left Kennet Vale in 7th place overall out of 27 teams.  A fantastic result!! To add to that Alison Goulstone won her section on her dressage score of 27.4 and got a beautiful rosette, sash and a prize and Rhian Evans was placed 7th in her section.

A brilliant weekend was had by everyone who went, despite very little sleep due to some serious partying that was going on elsewhere on the site!!!!  Huge thanks go to all the people that came along.  Our nominated helper, Cathy Kavanagh who had the uninspiring job of stewarding the roads and tracks for 5 hours on Saturday morning, all our designated grooms, moral support and general dogs bodies.  It was well worth the trip and roll on next year when we hope to qualify again!!!

Dressage to Music Qualifiers on 30th May 2010 @ Kingston Maurward

On 30th May, Phill Newbury on Frankie represented KVRC at the Dressage to Music qualifiers at Kingston Maurward.  Phill had a very early start as his first test was around 9am. He rode in the prelim warm up class where he finished in an impressive 6th place and he then rode in the Novice DTM class.  KVRC has never has a combination enter the DTM to this was a first time for us!! Phill and Frankie finished with a very credible score of over 60% but unfortunately this wasn't quite enough to qualify for the Championships.  However, the pair did us proud and Phill said they both had a very enjoyable day.
